Creating backlinks with Comment Hut

Posted on December 31st, 2006 in Blogging | 2 Comments »

A few days ago I found an article on a program called Comment Hut. You can read about the software and where to download the free Lite version there.

I decided to give it a try to build some backlinks. So far, I have tried this on my Calculus and Physics blog. I typed the keywords “calculus” and “physics” and found some blog posts that were relevant. I picked some with a higher PR level and took a look at the article. After reading the article, if I decided it was relevant to my site, I posted a comment and left my url. Hopefully, this will bring in some hits and will increase my PR level.

Using Technorati to promote your blog

Posted on December 28th, 2006 in Blogging | No Comments »

Now that I have made a few posts on each of my blogs and have put RevenuePilot on them as my source of revenue, I should start to promote my blogs. Hits are the key to making money on blogs. Without many visitors, you can not hope to earn much revenue from your blog. I will start my promoting with a website called Technorati.

“Technorati is the recognized authority on what’s happening on the World Live Web,” so they say (Technorati: About Us). What that means is that they have a huge database of bloggers that have submitted their RSS feed. So everytime one of these bloggers publishes a new article on their blog, it is submitted to Technorati. Technorati then tracks the number of links to each blog. The more links to your blog, the more popular your blog becomes on Technorati.

Step 1 Setting up your blog on Technorati

Go to Technorati and set up an account. Then “Claim your blog.” Click “Claim your blog” and enter the url of your blog (For example, I put http://calculusphysics.blogspot.com for my Calculus and Physics blog). Then choose to embed the code in your blog.

Step 2 Putting Technorati code on your blog

Open up a new window or tab (Ctrl + T in Firefox) and access your blog’s layout. If you are using a blog at Blogger.com, embed an HTML/Javascript code on your site. In the box, enter the Javascript code Technorati gave you and click “Save.” Now, just go back to Technorati and allow their spiders to search your site.

That is it and your posts should now be added to Technorati. All new posts should also be automatically updated on Technorati. If you find that they are not, you can ping Technorati manually.

Generating revenue with RevenuePilot

Posted on December 21st, 2006 in Blogging, RevenuePilot | 1 Comment »

Now that I have several posts on my two blogs at Blogger.com, Calculus and Physics and Student-Athletes, I have decided to monetize the sites with advertisements. I have decided to use a program called RevenuePilot. I chose RevenuePilot for two reasons.

  1. RevenuePilot allows you to target your ads. With ad targeting, you can pick keywords that will pay you better. Because these ads are not contextual, you can place them on the same pages as your Adsense or Yahoo! Publisher Network (YPN) ads.
  2. You can refer people and earn 10% of their revenue. I explain this in a little more detail in my article Earn 10% of your referrals’ revenue with RevenuePilot.

Step 1 Setting up an account with RevenuePilot

Go to the RevenuePilot website a sign up as a publisher. It is very simple and should not take more than a few minutes.

Step 2 Choosing keywords

You can now go to “Check Prices” on the left side of the members’ page. Here you can type in relevant keywords and see how much you will make per click. Try to pick kewords that are relevant to your site so your CTR (click through rate) is high.

Step 3 Placing advertisements on your blogger

First, click “Get Codes” and then choose JavaScript Include from the RevenuePilot members page. Fill out the form and then copy the code that it gives you.

Now go to your Blogger.com Dashboard and edit your blog’s template. Add a HTML/JavaScript element to your page and place the code from RevenuePilot in the box. Click save and then you are done.

Now we just have to keep adding content to the blogs and try to increase visitors. The clicks should follow.

Blog post update on Blogger.com (Catching up #3)

Another update from the past week.

On my Student-Athletes blog, I made a post about Foreign Athletes Competing as Americans. This post was from a short paper I wrote for a class last semester, thus, it required almost no work or time. If you have some old work that is relevant to what you are writing about, use it!
