Blog post update on Blogger.com (Catching up #2)

Posted on December 18th, 2006 in Blogging | No Comments »

Another update from the past week.

Last Thursday, December 14th, I made a new blog called Student-Athletes. Since I am a student-athlete at Northern Arizona, I decided I would blog about my experiences. Of course, it would not be appropriate to write blog posts regarding problems student-athletes face under my Calculus and Physics blog.

Anyway, I made a post telling my audience who I am. It is always important to establish credibility with your audience.

I will try to fill you in on the other blogs I’ve been writing on. Hopefully I will get all of the previous ones done tomorrow.

As you read in my Creating a blog and Google Adsense account post yesterday, I created a Calculus and Physics blog at Blogger.com. On December 12th I made a post about a website I found called Calc101.com.

Creating a blog and Google Adsense account

Posted on December 16th, 2006 in Blogging | 1 Comment »

If you were following my last blog on this, I decided that I would concentrate my fifteen minutes a day on blogging and using CPC advertising for income. Let me fill you in if you are new.

Blogging has been around for about 12 years now and there are currently over 60 million blogs (Wikipedia). They are easy to start and some people have made professional careers out of blogging. Google Adsense references one such blog called PVRblog.com. Clearly, others have had monetary success at blogging — which is why I have decided to start this experiment with blogging.

Step 1 Creating a specific blog

Now, first lets create a blog. For now, I have set up accounts with Blogger.com, but may decide to switch to another free service for reasons I’ll explain later.

You need to decide on a niche you want to blog about. Forget about high-paying keywords right now. Lets just get something published and rolling. I have decided to blog about calculus and physics, which are probably very low-paying keywords. I am currently majoring in mechanical engineering and have taken several courses on both subjects and feel that I have something to offer on the subject to most people.
Go to http://www.blogger.com and set up an account. Choose a blog name that includes some keywords from on the niche you decided on. Something unique is always best. Try to choose a url that is easy to remember and that includes the blog’s name in it. I titled mine “Calculus and Physics” and chose the url “calculusandphysics.blogspot.com.” It is up and running and you can visit it now if you would like. Pick one of the templates that you like best and… there you go! You have created a blog!

Step 2 Blog and edit

Once you have created your blog, you may want to do a quick post so your blog is no longer blank. If you have seen an interesting article recently, post that and put your input on it — people want to hear your opinion. I happened to find an article on how to calculate center of gravity and decided to share it because it relates to my niche. It is important to realize the difference between linking an article and giving your opinion of it and just posting content from the article. It is important that you are giving credit to the person who wrote the article.

You may also want to edit the theme, but don’t get too carried away. You don’t want to take away from your blog’s content with a fancy layout and graphics. Your text is what is important in the world of blogging.

Step 3 Creating an Adsense account

The final step today is creating an Adsense account. There are several options for advertising agencies. You want to go with content advertising because it will show relative ads to what is on your blog. Google’s Adsense is certainly the most popular and probably the easiest to set up. Yahoo’s Publisher Network (YPN), which I am currently using on this site, is similar to Adsense, but it is currently very difficult to be accepted into.

I am satisfied with my YPN account and will continue to use it instead of Adsense. Like I said, YPN is very difficult to be accepted into and they will not accept a blog and Blogger.com. In later posts, I will look into some other options to Cost-Per-Click (CPC) advertising and will go through some of the pros and cons.
If you have chosen to go with Adsense, go to http://www.google.com/adsense and click the button that says “Click Here to Apply.” Fill in the appropiate information and submit. It says it will take 1-2 business days, but it could take up to a week — so be patient.

That concludes my efforts for the day. I will keep a running total of my time estimate and the net revenue I have generated thus far.

Welcome to RevenueQuest

Posted on December 15th, 2006 in Blog Updates | 1 Comment »

Hello and welcome to RevenueQuest, my revenue earning experiment. RevenueQuest is simply a project to see if I can generate income on the internet while only spending 15 minutes, or less, a day.

Let me introduce myself: My name is Jason Pedersen and I have been involved in websites for about five years now. In those five years, I have picked up some knowledge of several subjects on-line, including HTML, PHP, MySQL, and streaming video. Noticeably missing is any experience in blogging; I have yet to set up a blog that I have worked diligently on. As you may know, many blogs do not make it in today’s world and get lost in the saturation of the blogging market, and ultimately end up just floating around in cyber space. I hope this blog beats the odds and earns some merit in the eyes of you, the reader, down the road.

I will be learning and trying new methods of generating revenue on-line and will post about my experiences, both successes and failures, here on RevenueQuest. It will be set up so that you, the reader, will be able to follow my steps along this journey and, hopefully, you too will learn something.
