New Project Website Update

A couple of months ago I mentioned that I had begun creating a revenue-inspired site. At the time, I was hoping to have the site done and launched by June 15th. That hasn’t happened. I have been making progress on the site and I thought I would let you all know how it is going.
The design of the site has been completed. I really like the banner on the top of the page that I created (in Photoshop Elements 2.0 no less!) and I think the color theme of the rest of the site complements it well.
The templates for every page are complete for the most part. There is at least one of every kind of page up on the site and I like the way it is laid out. Once more content is written, it already has a place to go.
Speaking of content, that is where I am the farthest behind schedule. In fact, I would be fairly confident marketing the site right now if I had more content up. It isn’t that the content is hard to write, it is just time consuming and lately I have been feeling that I should be spending my time on other matters.
Coding is going pretty well. I am using PHP for pretty much everything on the site. I am proud of the coding on the site thus far. If you are knowledgeable enough to do all of your own coding, it will do wonders for you. Besides the obvious of saving you the money from paying someone to the coding for you, depending on the job being done, you are taking some risks hiring a coder. You often have to give coders full access to your servers and scripts. For one, if the person you are working with isn’t trustworthy, this is a security risk. Second, you don’t want to turn your coder into the next Matt Zuckerberg, do you?
At the job I have been working this Summer, I often see opportunities people have missed out on because they had a great idea but without any coding knowledge, no way to implement it.
Lastly, the monetization. I would dare to say that this is the most important piece of the website I am building. Obviously, without good content you will never get any traffic and you will never make any revenue. But I have to remember that the whole reason for me developing this site in the first place was to generate revenue.
I have started with using Yahoo! Publisher Network and now AdBrite hopefully for some CPM dollars. There is another revenue stream that I am looking at incorporating. But more on that later.
